Hope held her baby close, wrapped
in a blanket of blue and green rabbit furs that Hunter had carefully collected
under the last nine new moons, skinning and tanning them to the softest fur
imaginable. The wizards sometimes walked through the Solis Market, and Hope
dreamed one might grant her baby a boon, or even a name.
Wizard-named, what greater
destiny might her child have? Better than being scoured to dust by the sands
between the Seven Temples, Hope thought with uncharacteristic bitterness. She
swallowed sudden tears and buried her face in her baby’s sweet, fair hair.
Note:
Argh! Idea fizzle! I have a sort of image I wanted to bring to life,
but I’m really floundering on this one. So, a very short prompt-write tonight,
although I spent a ridiculously long time to have so little to show for it!
That’s the way it goes sometimes – frustrating!
