Darla is in the Guinness Book of
World Records. You can look it up. Page 417 of the 2019 edition. Person who’s
had the longest continuous hiccups. Started when she was fourteen – after she
smoked her first joint, but that’s not in the record – and just never stopped.
Most times, she could ignore
them, or she was just so used to them, she didn’t even notice them any more,
little thumps in her belly. When she got excited or upset, they got worse, until
she could hardly breathe. They continued through her sleep, and once she even
hit her head on a pole sticking out of the wall on 17th Street, just
past the Italian deli – never even saw it and walked right into it and knocked
herself out, and the hiccups kept right on going.
[Sorry folks, that’s all I got
for tonight!]
