In honor of Michael Landsberry, hero of Sparks
Middle School,
with thanks to Los Dave’s Stone Dead
Forever project.
When your heart cries out
Bitter tears of Grief
Anger
Loss
Even when there are no words
There is still this stone
When you lift your fist
Rage at Fate
God
Man
Your silent voice rings
Loud and true
Even when there are no words
There is still this stone
When you fall to your knees
Wrap your arms around yourself
In every touch against your skin
Love love love
Even when there are no words
There is still this stone
When you gaze into the midnight
sky
Count the stars and trace the
story lines
Search for meaning in points of
light
And the stories of your life
Even when there are no words
There is still this stone
When you wonder, demand
Does God exist?
Without or within
Without or within
Even when there are no words
God
Prayer
Faith
Hope
Love
There is still this stone

Prompt: Even when there are no words
ReplyDeleteGrey sand blows, tinkling across the slate ground. The sky is grey, too. A paler grey moon casts miniature shadows of individual sand grains, speeding over the slate. The wind has a noise separate from the light tinkle of the sand; it is a soft sound, closer to a moan than a rumble.
Sand piles against the lee of a shape, an irregular lump. The lump moves, and a shower of sand sings like a million tiny harps playing the same cord. Shift. Shift. And no more: stillness.
It is not yet time.

Very interesting. Good sensory, lots of repetition makes the words sort of flow together (like sand). I like it!
